A US citizen doesn't need anything.

If you are a citizen then you need your ID (drivers license). If you are not then your greeen card or visa. AS for prices Check the rates for Grey Hound, and Air Lines on line and make a choice. I would either drive or fly before I took a bus that far.

las cruces new mexico is nice the carlsbad caverns are nice too

If you're going in the direction of Albuquerque, New Mexico from El Paso, Carlsbad Caverns (in NM) is a definite must see (web: http://www.nps.gov/cave/ ) for 2-6 hour visit. You also have White Sands National Monument (web: http://www.nps.gov/whsa/ ). This is a true wonder. Take a picnic! Go to http://www.Google.com/maps and put your start point and destination to get travel directions and time to destination. Saludos, BarcelonaMan

YOU need to look in the phone book and see if there are other bus lines that operate there. Then YOU need to call the bus station and ask the fares. It is the quickest, easiest way to find out. Or you can call this number 1-800-231-2222. Greyhound does not list fares on-line.

Greyhound is the only bus line I know of. Might check SW flights. At times they can be cheaper than bus.
